Year 8 information and communications – digital media design
Unit of work: "food on the net"
During this unit of work the students are asked to construct a web site to encourage healthy eating in adolescence.
The students cook a variety of foods including – san choy bow, dressed baked potato and fruit crumble and photograph their food to be included in the recipes on the web site. Emphasis is given to creating an eye-catching website and including all relevant information.
For this unit of work students must have a USB drive to save all work on.
Their computer skills in word processing, downloading photos and practical skills are assessed.
Year 8 the built environment – interior design/textiles
Unit of work: "my space"
During this unit of work students construct a scale model of their bedroom. They should include all floor and wall coverings and pieces of furniture. These can be constructed from cardboard or the use of ready constructed items is permitted.
As well as the diorama the students construct a pillow to fit into the decor of their room. The pillow is firstly tie dyed then 2 other methods of decoration are applied.
The life of an interior designer is studied and a word process report is completed.
Students are assessed on their diorama, machine skills, decoration of their pillow and the interior design assignment.
